Engineering Manager

Onoff Telecom works on changing the way people use their cellphones around the world.
Their product is a unique mobile application that allows users to instantly add multiple phone numbers from different countries on their cellphones and make calls to more than 100 countries. At the moment, it is possible to add phone numbers from 30+ countries including France, Belgium, UK, USA, and Canada.
Currently, they are expanding and are looking for a creative Engineering Manager to guide their talented engineering team and drive their product evolution.

Tasks:
  • Lead Onoff's core engineering team, fostering an environment of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning 
  • Conduct regular 1-on-1 meetings to support professional development, address challenges, and ensure team well-being
  • Perform annual performance reviews and develop personalized career growth plans, providing constructive feedback and aligning goals with company and individual aspirations
  • Participate in hiring processes, including candidate screening, interviewing, and onboarding new hires
  • Provide mentorship and guidance, empowering engineers to acquire new skills and excel in their roles
  • Conduct regular reviews of team metrics and implement corrective actions to maintain peak performance
  • Make strategic decisions about team composition, including addressing underperformance when necessary
  • Monitor and optimize engineering health metrics using tools like Sentry, Grafana, and other relevant systems to ensure code quality and performance
  • Ensure stable and predictable delivery cycles with efficient release processes
  • Lead the resolution of incidents, conducting thorough postmortems to identify root causes and lessons learned
  • Share findings transparently with stakeholders and implement action items to prevent recurrence
  • Remove impediments to progress and measure Agile metrics like velocity and burndown charts to drive continuous improvement
  • Drive Agile best practices, adapting processes to suit team needs and objectives
  • Collaborate with Product Managers and stakeholders to prioritize and execute technical vision and strategy that align with Onoff’s goals and product roadmap
Must-have:
  • 2+ years of experience in a similar position as an Engineering Manager
  • Solid prior experience as a backend engineer
  • Expertise in Java, Docker, MySQL, and AWS
  • Proven experience in back-end architecture and team leadership
  • Strong communication, strategic thinking, and collaboration skills
